As a Foreign Language teacher at Zhengzhou Foreign Language School, you will be teaching Oral English. This means that you do not focus on grammar, but rather, helping the students with their accents and teaching them about your culture. Most of these students are fascinated with America and other countries and want to know what is different and what is the same. As a
teacher here, you will teach up to 24 classes a week, class periods are
40 minutes long. You see your students once a week, so you teach the
same lesson plan throughout the week. Classes usually contain 25-30
students. Classes are divided by age and also by testing ability. Students in the same class are divided into two sections (A and B) based on their test scores for the month. You will work with a teaching partner and each teach one section of the class. You are not expected to give any homework in these classes but you are asked to give two final evaluations, one before the Chinese Spring Festival and the other before summer vacation. Teaching at this school, you are expected to work with a network of foreign language teachers and share ideas and lesson plans. This is for the benefit of the students and the teachers. Durning student testing, some classes may be cancelled but then made up that Saturday or at the school's convenience. As part of the teaching staff, you are expected to make up these classes when the school requests it.
